Join the Paper Pledge for the Planet

As part of its celebration of 2024 International Open Access Week, the Texas Digital Library joins with the Confederation of Open Access Repositories, EIFL, the Open Climate Campaign, and other regional, national, and institutional partners, to invite you to participate in the Paper Pledge for the Planet.

The Paper Pledge is a global effort to activate institutional repositories as tools for climate action. TDL is one of hundreds of institutions working together through the Paper Pledge to make climate change literature openly available.

There are more than 3,500 climate change articles that have been published in the last five years that are currently closed access but can be made openly available. Over 400 of the articles have first authors based at a US institution, and a subset of those articles have authors from Texas-based institutions.

Here is how you can participate:

  1. View papers that may belong to your institution in this spreadsheet
  2. Work with or coordinate within your institution to deposit them in your institutional repository. Let the TDL  know if they were deposited by sending an email to info@tdl.org or adding the link to the open-access copy directly in the spreadsheet.
  3. Attend a webinar in November to discuss paper recruitment strategies, including helpful tips and access to guidance materials (e.g., email templates). You can register on the COAR website.
  4. Promote the initiative on your campus. COAR has created advocacy materials, including images and badges, that you can use, translate, and adapt (including an easy-to-edit PDF to which you can add your logo).

If you have any questions, please contact Kristi Park at kristi.park@austin.utexas.edu or at info@tdl.org.
