Announcing DuraCloud™ @TDL for digital preservation

The Texas Digital Library (TDL) is pleased to announce the development of cost-effective, easy-to-use digital preservation storage for its member institutions through DuraCloudTM @TDL. With DuraCloudTM @TDL, members can accurately plan preservation costs, enjoy predictability of service, and rely on known, durable technologies for ensuring the integrity of their digital collections.

DuraCloudTM is an open-source technology from DuraSpace that facilitates the storage of multiple copies of digital content in geographically distributed storage locations. It allows for easy ingestion and replication of content and, through a bit integrity checking service, verifies that stored content maintains bit-level integrity over time.

How It Works

Starting in early 2015, each TDL regular member will receive a space in DuraCloudTM @TDL, along with a storage allowance based on its membership level.

Currently, DuraCloudTM @TDL offers three possible storage options — two in the Amazon Cloud and one at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC). Members can choose to ingest one copy of their content, or to replicate that content to additional storage locations. DuraCloudTM @TDL will, in the future, serve as an ingestion point for content replicated to the Digital Preservation Network, a nationwide higher education initiative to ensure long-term access to the complete scholarly record.
