The following training opportunity on Big Data, intended for librarians, archivists, and others interested in data management, will be offered by  experts from the Texas Advanced Computing Center as part of the 2014 IEEE Big Data Conference in Washington, DC.

First Hands-On Workshop on Leveraging High Performance Computing Resources for Managing Large Datasets

Workshop Theme: Towards Breaking the Big Data Iceberg

A one-day hands-on workshop on leveraging High Performance Computing (HPC) resources for Big Data management will be held between October 27 to October 30, 2014 in Washington D.C. This workshop is collocated with the 2014 IEEE Big Data conference. The target audience includes, but is not limited to, archivists, librarians, data curators, researchers, educators and students.

No prior HPC experience is required. During this hands-on workshop, the participants will:

  • Get acquainted with the Big Data management challenges and learn about some of the solution strategies to mitigate those challenges using HPC
  • Get an introduction to the national CyberInfrastructure called XSEDE, and the high-end storage and computing environment at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC)
  • Get access to the TACC computing and storage resources for participating in the hands-on sessions
  • Develop practical skills for defining Big Data management workflows on HPC resources
