NSF releases guidelines for data management

The National Science Foundation has released its new guidelines requiring grant-seekers to include a two-page data management plan outlining information about data to be collected in the course of a project, as well as plans for sharing, redistribution, and preservation of the data.

Along with a set of general guidelines for data management plans, the site includes a data management FAQ and several unit-specific sets of guidelines (e.g. for the Directorate of Engineering).

The Texas Digital Library provides resources that can help researchers prepare strong data management and data sharing plans for grant proposals. These include open access repositories that disseminate research results online, as well as a Preservation Network that stores repository data in a dark archive at geographically dispersed locations.

Additional information and resources for developing data management plans will be forthcoming from the Texas Digital Library.
